ECM Libra Foundation is a private charity set up by the founders of ECM Libra Group
Our foundation support education-related endeavours with the aim of improving the lives of disadvantaged Malaysians. We do this by providing different forms of student financial aid to youths in need, irrespective of race, religion or creed.
We also provide grants for capital infrastructure and equipment that support learning, especially in under-served areas. In addition, the Foundation funds creative projects and builds partnerships with passionate people who seek to improve the education sector for the poor.

The Foundation was born out of the vision of ECM Libra Group founding partners – Dato’ Seri Kalimullah bin Masheerul Hassan, Datuk Lim Kian Onn and Dato’ David Chua Ming Huat – to uplift the poor through education. The trio, who had come from humble backgrounds, understands the role education plays in helping the underprivileged break out of the poverty cycle.
In March 2004, the founders listed their boutique financial services group and decided to make good a promise they made between themselves: to give a certain percentage of the profits to charity, start a foundation and do something useful with their lives. Collectively, the founders donated a total of RM63 million of their personal money and established the Foundation in August 2004. While Dato’ Chua has relocated to Hong Kong and is no longer part of the Foundation, Dato’ Seri Kalimullah and Datuk Lim continues to be actively involved in the philanthropic work.
They are especially keen on helping the marginalised segments of the communities, in particular the Orang Asli in Peninsular Malaysia, the natives of Sabah and Sarawak, and also the hard-core poor in the small towns and urban-poor communities.

A Board of Trustees was set up to govern the Foundation, independent of the ECM Libra Group. The Board currently comprises Dato’ Seri Kalimullah bin Hassan (Chairman), Datuk Lim Kian Onn, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Sak Cheng Lum, Dato’ Mohd Ali bin Abd Samad and Mr Lim Beng Choon.

The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of publicly-listed ECM Libra Group Berhad (formerly known as ECM Libra Financial Group Berhad).
