our story
ECM Libra Foundation is a private charity set up by the founders of ECM Libra Group.
Our foundation supports education-related endeavours with the aim of improving the lives of disadvantaged Malaysians. We do this by providing different forms of financial aid to Malaysians in need.
We also provide grants for infrastructure and equipment that support learning, especially in under-served areas. In addition, the Foundation funds creative projects and builds partnerships with people who seek to improve the education sector for the poor.

our history
The Foundation was born out of the vision of ECM Libra Group founding partners – Dato’ Seri Kalimullah bin Masheerul Hassan, Dato’ Lim Kian Onn and Dato’ David Chua Ming Huat – to uplift the poor through education. The founders believe that education is an equaliser in helping the underprivileged break out of the poverty cycle.
In March 2004, the founders listed their boutique financial services group and decided to make good a promise they made between themselves: to give a certain percentage of their proceeds from listing to charity to fund education projects and other charity for the marginalised and poor. The founders established the Foundation in August 2004. Whilst Dato’ David Chua has relocated to Hong Kong, Dato’ Seri Kalimullah and Dato’ Lim continue to be actively involved in the philanthropic work.
The Foundation is focused on helping the marginalised communities, in particular the Orang Asli in Peninsular Malaysia, the natives of Sabah and Sarawak, and also the hard-core poor in the small towns and urban-poor communities.

Dato’ Mohd Ali Bin Abd Samad
One of the earliest trustees of the ECM Libra Foundation, Dato’ Mohd Ali Bin Abd Samad, has passed away after a short illness.
The late Dato’ Mohd Ali, a warm, cheerful and caring person, was a pillar of the Foundation and was passionate about helping underprivileged communities in whatever way possible.
His experience as a former senior civil servant and as a board member of numerous government agencies was extremely beneficial to the Foundation.
The ECM Libra Foundation and it’s trustees will always remember Dato Mohd Ali for his contributions, leadership and guidance.
Dato’ Mohd Ali was a trustee of the Foundation since 2005 until his passing on 29th January 2022. He is survived by his wife Datin Kamsiah Binti Saabin, 6 children and 12 grandchildren.
