KUALA LUMPUR May 31 – ECM Libra Foundation, together with the Royal Selangor Club (RSC), has announced a scholarship of RM50,000 per year for 10 underprivileged kids to train at the club”s soccer section. Speaking at a press conference here today, Jimi Low, chairman of the RSC Junior Soccer Development Programme, said the scholarship was aimed at players aged six to 18 years old.
He said ECM Libra Foundation would bear the training costs, while RSC would provide the coaching and administrative expertise.
“Currently, three applicants have had their scholarship approved. They are Muhammad Amirul Muqriz, eight, who will be training with the under-8 squad; Mohamad Hafizi, 13, who will be part of the under-14 squad; and G. Selvaraji, 16, who will be in the under-16 squad,” he added.
Low said the committee was still in the process of identifying deserving applicants for the seven remaining scholarships.
“The selection panel, comprising ECM Libra Foundation representatives as well as RSC soccer section representatives and coaches, will identify and select players with high potential, but experiencing financial difficulties,” noted Low.
He added that if anyone knew a child with the potential to play soccer well, but was struggling financially, enquiries and recommendations could be directed to the RSC Sports Office at 03-2093 2277 or sent by email to sports@rscweb.org.my.
