PETALING JAYA: Healthcare workers from Kuala Lumpur General Hospital (HKL) battling the Covid-19 pandemic in the country will be able to stay for free at the Tune Hotel Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) branch.

The free hotel stay initiative for the healthcare workers was launched by ECM Libra Foundation, together with the support of hotelier Ormond Group.

"This will assist frontline healthcare workers battling the Covid-19 crisis who, after working long shifts and have difficulties in going home before reporting for duty again, to get some respite rather than sleep in corridors and on stretchers, as has been occurring," it said in a statement on Tuesday (March 24).

It noted that all 130 hotel rooms at the hotel would be provided to medical personnel of HKL, adding that those who stayed overnight would also be provided with complimentary breakfast.

“The frontline workers have shown selfless commitment and risked their lives daily for Malaysians.

"We will never be able to express our gratitude enough. We just wish we could do more," the ECM Libra Foundation Board of Trustees chairman Kalimullah Hassan said in a statement on Tuesday (March 24).

The statement added that the free accommodation will begin on Tuesday for the next 30 days.

"If the Covid-19 threat has not abated, the Foundation will review the situation in consultation with HKL," it said.
