Squash match between bigwigs to raise funds for vulnerable folk

TWO business personalities will be taking their “battles” from the boardroom to the courts, in a charity squash match dubbed the “Battle of The Bulge”.
AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and corporate bigwig Tan Sri Salim Fateh Din will be playing for a good cause, as funds raised from the event will be channelled to five non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which have been helping communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The organisers hope to raise enough funds from fellow corporate personalities and generous donors to provide at least 150,000 meals or feed at least 1,000 families for six months.
The event, organised in support of ECM Libra Foundation’s Covid-19 food aid programme, is in aid of Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, Kechara Soup Kitchen, Good Shepherd Services, Yayasan Chow Kit and Malaysian Relief Agency.
The foundation said that since the pandemic hit, many people had lost their jobs and were struggling to put food on the table.
The elderly, the infirm and children are particularly vulnerable.
Although NGOs have stepped in to assist various communities such as the urban poor, indigenous folk, migrant workers and refugees, they too are shocked by the extent of the pandemic’s effects.
The charity squash match hopes to give the selected NGOs a financial boost to help continue their work for the target communities while providing support until there is some economic recovery.
The “Battle of The Bulge” is scheduled for Oct 18 at Nicol David Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, at 4pm.
The match will be telecast live via Astro Arena (CH 802 HD/801) on Astro.
